A Letter From Our President

Dear Friends,

“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”

No truer words were ever spoken. Like most equine enthusiasts, my love affair with horses
is as old as I can remember. Before cable, DVDs, and a television in every room, those of
us of a certain age can recall watching what our parents chose, and at my house that
meant The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, and anything starring John Wayne. I didn't
care about the characters, only the critters, and I can tell you that Ben Cartwright, all
toughness and common sense, rode a dun. The buckskin has been my favorite ever
since, and it was the color of the first horse I ever owned.

The Mid America Buckskin Association is a charter of the International Buckskin Horse
Association. We welcome duns, red duns, grulla, and buckskin horses into our fold. Since
2007, we have partnered with our genetic relatives, the Hoosier Palomino Association.
Together, we have two shows scheduled for this year: May 22 & 23, August 28 & 29 (our
futurity). Both shows will be held at the Henry County Fairgrounds at New Castle, and we
have expanded our show bill in an attempt to offer something for everyone.

In addition, it never fails that on the Saturday evening of our show weekend, we gather as
a collective herd to eat good food, make great friends, and tell stories, some of which
might even be true. As our motto states, “we are an association of good people and
buckskin horses.”

As MABA president, I invite you to come and share the love affair that combines horses,
people, and showing. As we used to say in trail riding: “…it don’t get no better than this!”
